Karan has been working with watercolours for over 30 years as a hobby. Since retiring 10 years ago she has created over 100 works and participated in 25 exhibitions. Karan works mostly in watercolours as it allows for minute colour changes within the layers. Through experimentation she has mastered painting watercolour on rice paper using wax as a resist, a technique not widely found in Australia. These paintings have drama and emotion as rice paper is delicate and rips easily. The effects are whimsical and, at times, magical.
