- capture the effects of the transparency of water, using layering techniques

What will I learn?
Through demonstrations and a series of ‘hands-on’ exercises, you will learn fast and easy methods for painting flowers, using a multi-layering technique. This will include learning to:
• paint with opaque and transparent oil colours
• understand the advantages in painting with the Venetian technique
• build volume, textures and shapes from a first layer in tones of grey and second layer in full colour
• balance tones for a harmonious outcome

Sarah will take you through the step-by-step process of finding clients, taking briefs, creating mural-worthy works, getting your work onto the wall and finishing the project professionally, confidently and safely.
The workshop that will provide you with the knowledge, confidence and understanding to add 'murals' to your creative business offering.
Workshop content:
The workshop covers the mural process from client enquiry to final coating on the mural, including: • Taking a brief • Materials, tools, estimating material costs • Pricing, quoting, contracts and safety training courses • Getting your mural design up onto the wall (several different techniques) • Protecting the surface of your completed mural • Production timelines, logistics and contracting artist assistants • Finding mural work, call outs and grants • Community engagement

INTRO TO STENCILS WORKSHOP

In this workshop you will be able to cut loose and immerse yourself in 2 hours of fun with Sarah Sculley, street artist and muralist.
You will be learning how to create stencils and use spray paint to produce a colourful, creative and edgy 300 x 300mm quality canvas artwork to take home.
While paying attention to concept development and colour palettes, you will be shown how to create a rich and vibrant abstract background on your canvas by building up layers of spray paint.
Once the background is complete, Sarah will show you how to photograph, prepare and cut your own stencils. There will also be a range of stencil templates for you to choose from. You will learn how to effectively cut and spray the stencils.
Different spray paint techniques and blends will be demonstrated to create your own unique design.
All materials and safety gear will be provided. You only need to bring your wonderful self, covered in old clothes that you don’t mind spilling paint on. Everyone will walk away from this colourful workshop with their own street art masterpiece and the skills to create your own stencils and techniques to spray them.

TSA TSA PAINTING – SCULPTURES

Join us at the Chenrezig Institute Art studio on the Buddhist holy day of Saka Dawa to do some meditative painting of Tsa Tsas, a form of Buddhist sacred art.
The practice of making Tsa Tsas has flourished in remote parts of the Himalayas, most notably Tibet.
Originally Tsa Tsas are small sacred images made from clay. Nowadays at the Chenrezig Institute Art Studio we produce Tsa Tsas using plaster or gypsum which allows for greater detail. Tsa Tsas can be found inside Stupas, Prayer Wheels, Sacred caves and on Alters. They may also be given as gifts.
The creation of sacred objects such as Tsa Tsas is a practice that is said to result in positive energy for the makers, painters and the recipients.
Included:
Statues and paint will be provided and participants will be able to take their sacred objects home.

BUDDA’S PORTRAIT - DRAWING

Learn to draw a portrait of the Buddha using a traditional grid system, a method that has been passed down in a lineage for hundreds of years.
This method is the foundation for anyone interested in learning to draw or paint a thangka, a painting usually depicting a Buddhist deity or mandala.
The class is suitable for absolute beginners, as well as artists interested in learning the traditional methods of buddhist drawing and painting.

About the teacher
Venerable Ösel is a retired teacher who worked mostly with primary school children but also taught in high school, TAFE and university settings, and loves to share her artistic enthusiasms.
She was ordained as a buddhist nun in 2020 by our own Geshe Tsultrim.

Come and learn the art of gilding in gold leaf at the Chenrezig Institute Art Studio.
In this workshop we will guide students through the process of applying gold leaf to a small Buddha statue called a Tsa Tsa.
The creation of, as well as the offering of paint/ gold to sacred objects such as Tsa Tsas, statues, and stupas, is a practice that is said to result in great merit and positive energy for the practitioner as well as the recipient. Tsa Tsas make wonderful additions to an altar, mantelpiece or any other clean, respectful location.

Each person will be provided with a small tsatsa and gold leaf for gilding, which participants will be able to take home with them afterwards.

Joolie Gibbs is an Australian artist who finds inspiration in everyday people and the places that she lives and works in. Her message is environmental, with a desire to be part of the solution rather than the problem - starting with her own backyard.
